Our staff has had the privilege to work with a number of clients in special populations. The list includes (but is not limited to) those with cerebral palsy, multiple sclerosis, heart disease, cancer, HIV, lupus, hypo and hyperthyroidism, asthmatics and diabetics. Additionally, we have worked with individuals recovering from drug addiction and alcoholism.
Very often, pharmaceutical companies and gene therapists aid special populations at the expense of neglecting a key ingredient to good health, exercise. Some medical professionals even tell their special needs patient(s) that “they can’t do this or that, etc.”
How discouraging!
This discouraging feedback is often untrue. If everybody listened to those who tell us what we can’t do, then none of us would ever achieve our goals!
Adding exercise to one’s life is one of the healthiest, self-nurturing activities for improving, promoting and facilitating good holistic health.
Our professional and experienced staff will work with each special group on an individual basis. Additionally, the programming of exercises will be dependent on one’s abilities. Our staff will provide a continuous stream of motivation and encouragement.
Our staff had the pleasure of working with a client who could barely get out of his chair without assistance. He was told by his medical team that his condition was only going to get worse with time and that there was nothing he could do about it. There were significant circulatory and postural problems, muscle weakness, atrophy and various musculoskeletal issues (including fractures) caused by the many falls when trying to walk.
However, with consistency and a willingness to work, our staff developed an exercise program that consisted of incrementally small manageable steps.
After a few months of diligent teamwork, this client was walking on a treadmill unassisted!
The same concept for success has been realized for many of the aforementioned special populations. You can expect the best, most dedicated team when working with Walder Fitness.
We are excited and look forward to working with you!
