Cardiovascular exercise (also known as aerobic exercise) is the body’s ability to get oxygen and blood to the muscles. It is a system of physical conditioning designed to enhance the circulatory and respiratory systems. This helps to strengthen the heart muscle and reduce blood pressure.
Cardiovascular activity typically involves light, moderate to vigorous sustained exercise, such as jogging, swimming, or cycling. Furthermore, aerobic exercise offers many other health benefits such as increasing the body’s metabolic rate (the sum total of all chemical events that occur in the body). This equates to more calorie burning and can lead to a reduction in body fat.
Less body fat means less risk for developing disease, for example, diabetes.
In addition, high-impact aerobic activities (such as jogging or jumping rope) can stimulate bone growth, as well as reduce the risk for osteoporosis, a very debilitating bone disease.
In conclusion, cardiovascular activity is a very potent mechanism for maintaining and achieving optimal health.
Our educated, professional and courteous staff will help each individual develop the most efficacious cardiovascular program based upon one’s specific goals.
