Flexibility training (stretching) is an integral part of any training program and is essential in the pursuit for optimal performance. It is also beneficial for injury prevention, rehabilitation and feeling holistically healthy.
Adequate flexibility permits the required joint range of motion (ROM) during activity. Flexibility training also helps to decrease muscle tightness. Furthermore, it can help to restore the body’s integrity by helping to correct muscular imbalance(s) often due to poor posture. Poor posture can lead to overcompensation of muscles. This can then lead to pain and injury.
Stretching of muscles is often incorporated into both the warm-up and cool-down phases of an exercise program.
